Luna Chick Series By Christina Fajardo
I began a spiritual journey in January of 2011 and out of this intense journey my "Luna Chick" series was born in March of 2011. I am drawn to angels and the Hispanic culture. I have found that my "Luna Chicks" speak to that spiritual part in many people. The name "Luna Chick" is inspired by a little community in New Mexico where my mother was born called "Puerto de Luna" or gate to the moon. My mixed media Luna Chicks series is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Agnes Padilla Fajardo and my grandmother, Rosita Valdez Padilla.
My grandparent’s chile farm is located in Puerto de Luna, near the muddy waters of the Pecos River in Northeastern New Mexico. It has served as a great inspiration to my art due to the rich family history and my childhood memories of green chile fields in the summer and red chile ristras decorating every adobe home in the fall. The mixed media of my "Luna Chicks" signify the beauty and strength of diverse experiences and culture brought together to create life and art.
