Designing CD covers was one of my favorite thing to do as a graphic designer for many years. Things have changed. Now many of us listen to streaming music . Nonetheless, if you are going to upload your songs to Spotify, Apple Music, CD Baby or any of the other streaming platforms, you are going to need art for your songs that resemble a CD cover. Here are my words of wisdom . . . If you are going to spend years writing cool songs and spend thousands of dollars recording them, put some effort into the artwork as well. I can't tell you how many times I have had recording artists come to me a couple of days before they need the CD art and ask me to throw something together.

 

Your CD cover needs to visually reflect the professional job you have done writing your songs, learning to play them and recording them. 

If you are in fact going to go ahead with a CD, I suggest the eco-friendly packaging. 

I normally require a week to design a CD cover. After you see your ideas on paper, you might change your mind about a few things so the first two rounds of proof changes are free.
